trying to roll with the punches

The work / life balance is totally out of whack.  It doesn't happen often but its in full swing.  These last 2 weeks have been particularly crappy.  I had a horrible experience traveling internationally (lesson learned and boy do I know a lot more now), I've been on the edge of being sick and I have been tossed some additional work last minute which includes a very tight timeline.  Its not Bad per-say, just really crappy timing.  I barely had a minute to do anything (I scheduled pee breaks this week, that is sad).

So this week, due to some decisions beyond me, my week lightened..  YEAH!! well Boo.. but YEAH!!

I can do the prep I need to, do the docs I need to and breathe.  White space on a calender does not mean I HAVE to do back to back meetings.  For the love of pete, I need like 30 to an hour to process what I just did and prep for the next one.  this is how things get missed.  Or something slips.

My plan for today..  Catch up.  Call my mom, do my docs, have a call at 4:30-6:30pm.  And drink lots of Coffee, Tea and water.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Photoshop: 0 Me:1

YEAH!  New header. Basic.  Photoshopped it... well, i used layers and that's about it.  But its done.  The image was from a trip to Rochester and we had a hitchhiker.  This little cricket hung on for dear life the entire trip....  We set him free at the Strong.

Toss on a hat will ya!

Its really cold this morning.

There are schools in the NORTHERN part of the region that opted to close.  Good for them.

So as I was doing the daily "What's going on in the world" on Facebook, the local news feed posted about school closing and some parents were complaining that Buffalo was the ONLY one not closed.
These parents need to go back to school for some Geography lessons.  Only 1 county decided to close since they didn't use up all their snow days in November and we did.    All the other school districts have school.  Yes, it's cold out there.  Yes, it sucks.  But for the love of Pete, dress your kids appropriately !!
PUT ON A HAT WILL YA!  How about some boots and gloves.  We do not need a snow day for temps like this.  If were closer to 0 then maybe.  Negative numbers.. hell yeah.  And they only give us closings or delays for the cold only (no snow, just cold) because the Buses can't run.  Diesel fuel has a harder time going in the bitter bitter cold.  Delays will allow the outside temp to come up just enough for the buses to go.     But we don't need a day off for this.

Being where we are located I giggle when my friends in VA get an inch or 2 of snow. I giggle because it is only 2 inches and that is nothing here.  Everything shuts down, schools close... But I also giggle because I have been down in VA when that hits and it  is utter chaos.  They are not equipped to handle snow.  They don't get it more than maybe 1 or 2 times in a season...  while we may be under it from November to March. A little Salt/Sand... a few plows if any and there is no Defensive Winter Driving skill.

Stay warm folks.  Bundle up and keep your feet dry.

Rules are rules

There has been some backlash on the whole story involving the family with the disabled daughter who "had to" sit on Mom's lap for the flight when the child was over 2.

See here for the story and here for the United response.

I am going to get on a soap box on this one.  Because I can and since no one reads this, what do I care.  I don't know this family.  It doesn't matter.

The Rules clearly state that if the kid is under 2, the lap is fine.  Otherwise, own seat.  And they MUST BE IN THAT SEAT.

Now, I understand the Flight Attendant was doing her job  and maybe it was harsh, i wasn't there.  But RULES ARE RULES.

2 Carry on Bags
Everything is stowed
No PCs until the thing goes Ding.
Babes in arms are ok.  Otherwise -- OWN SEAT.

Here's what I don't get.  Kids ages 2 to say 7/8 maybe ..  they need to be in a car seat in the car right?  Plane.. Car..  pretty close.  They make seat harnesses for the kids on planes (pretty slick I may say) to keep them safe.  Why on God's green earth wouldn't you do the same thing for the plane?!!

The mom claimed she didn't know.  And she is now getting a seat for the next trip.

........

I travel.  A lot.
When you buy tickets, they ask for the age.  The Airlines post this info.  I checked out the basic United Flight search has info....
Here.

........

The flight was delayed for an hour.   I would be pissed if I missed my connection.

This is not an age where we can claim ignorance as an excuse.   Google it.
FAA children in lap rules

and I get this page:  http://www.faa.gov/passengers/fly_children/

It took me all of 1 min to find the answer.

Could the flight attendant handled it better?  Maybe.  But what about the parents?  Sure, the kiddo is only 3, looks like she 2 ish, probably went under the age radar to be able to sit on Mom's lap.  I get it.
If you have a special needs kid, you read the rules.  You make sure you know the rules because more often others don't know and that's when things go bad.  If something were to have happened on that flight and god forbid the little girl was hurt, I'm sure the tables would have been turned saying that the Crew didn't enforce the rules and didn't do enough to protect the child.

ARRRGGG!!!!!

Not my problem. Not my issue.  Let it go.. .let it go!!!!!

Hello 2015.. A little early but hello

I had intended on sleeping in this morning after arriving home at 2:30 am and finally falling asleep at 3:30am.  My stoopid cat had other ideas.  9am rolls around and she starts in with the meowing.  The sad pitiful kind like "I..am.. Starving.. If you don't feed me right now I shall surely die!!!".  Then she walks on my face.  So there will be a cranky Mel today.  Stoopid cat.  No nip for you today.

I can't even go back to bed either.  Once one of us are up, she cries is she find us.  Kitty dementia has set in.  When you have a 16+ year old cat, you get shit like that.

She stands in the doorway of our room and pulls that pitiful meow again, even more so.  " mom? Where are you? Where did you guys go??".  We are in the next room!!! So we call her in and she gives us this look like "you didn't tell me you were in here!".

I really want to take a nap..... Why doesn't someone just declare Jan 1 as official stay in your jammies and nap day?  Who's with me!
